leading with resolve, not fear

Neighbors:

You may have seen the County Executive’s recent decision to cancel the Hispanic Heritage Festival in Wheaton. I couldn’t disagree more.

I am proud to celebrate my latino culture and heritage, and I won’t back down celebrating who I am out of a fear. Our community should not be guided by fear, especially when recent local events have been held safely and successfully. The festival is a vital opportunity to celebrate our heritage, support latino- and immigrant-owned businesses, and bring neighbors together. Yes, we are under attack by the reckless and immoral immigration policies coming from the Trump administration. And yes, every individual needs to make their own risk assessment based on their unique circumstances. But like our friends in DCmy answer is resolve, not fear.

With that in mind, I hope you will join me this Sunday (10am-5pm) in downtown Wheaton for the Wheaton Arts Parade.

And please join me at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Downtown Wheaton for live music on October 16, beginning at 5pm. Students from Odessa Shannon Middle School and Kennedy High School will be giving live performances as well as Max Rosado & The 7th Street Band.

Sincerely,
