Councilmember Natali Fani-González Invites the Community to a Public Safety Discussion with MCPD on its Drone Response Program on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
ROCKVILLE, Md., Sept. 7, 2023—Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González, chair of the Council’s Economic Development Committee (ECON), and the Mid-County Citizens Advisory Board and the Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee, will jointly host a community meeting to discuss a proposed police drone program on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, located on 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) will speak about their proposal to use drone technology as first responders to enhance public safety and decrease police response times. The presentations will be in English and Spanish, followed by an open question and answer period.
Councilmember Fani-González requested that MCPD make this presentation so that community members have an opportunity to learn more about the technology, ask questions and share feedback.
At the beginning of this community meeting, the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services will give a brief update on the latest efforts to tackle the fentanyl crisis among youth.

ROCKVILLE, Md., 7 de septiembre de 2023—Este martes 12 de septiembre a las 6:30 p.m, la Concejal del Condado de Montgomery, Natali Fani-González, presidenta del Comité de Desarrollo Económico (ECON) del Concejo, en coordinación con la Junta Directiva de Residentes de Mid-County y el Comité Asesor del Distrito Urbano de Wheaton, organizará una reunión con la comunidad para discutir una propuesta piloto para usar drones en Wheaton y Glenmont. El evento se realizará en la Biblioteca y Centro Recreativo de Wheaton, ubicada en 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
El Departamento de Policía del Condado de Montgomery hablará sobre su propuesta de utilizar tecnología de drones como respuesta inmediata para mejorar la seguridad pública y optimizar los tiempos de respuesta de la policía. La presentación será en inglés y español, seguidas de un período abierto de preguntas y respuestas.
