More info on More Housing NOW

Neighbors:

Over the last couple weeks, I have shared some details on the More Housing N.O.W. (New Options for Workers) package and announced a series of opportunities for public input on the proposal. There has been considerable interest in this effort, which has been great to see. That is why I wanted to share the following information all in one location. I hope to see you at one of the town halls, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions: Councilmember.Fani-Gonzalez@montgomerycountymd.gov.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Fani-Gonzalez Signature

More Housing N.O.W.

The More Housing N.O.W. package takes five steps to increase the supply of housing, drive down costs, and increase pathways to homeownership for the hard-working residents of Montgomery County. The package consists of:

  1. Workforce Housing ZTA
  2. Workforce Housing Opportunity Fund, to be addressed during this year’s budget.
  3. Office to Housing ZTA with an Office to Housing Subdivision Regulation Amendment (SRA)
  4. Office to Housing Tax Abatement Bill
  5. Doubling of the County’s investment in the Homeowner Assistance Program, to be addressed during this year’s budget.

Interactive Map of Workforce Housing ZTA
The Workforce Housing ZTA would allow more residential building types through optional method development along corridors with a 15% workforce housing requirement in the R-200, R-90, R-60, and R-40 zones. Corridors included are Boulevards, Downtown Boulevards, Downtown Streets, Controlled Major Highways, and Town Center Boulevards that have a master planned width greater than 100 feet and 3+ existing travel lanes.

We have created a digital interactive map where you can see what parcels are included in the proposal. Check it out »

Restaurant Regulations Town Hall

For the past two years, as Chair of Economic Development, I have been working closely with restaurants throughout the county. As part of that work of helping restaurant operators and workers become familiar with new and existing food service regulations coming from the state, I am hosting a meeting with the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Permitting Services on February 24. This meeting is a great opportunity for existing restaurants as well as for entrepreneurs thinking about opening a restaurant.
